Novice Team rowing on the water. Just observe how we are rushing up the slide as fast as we are stroking. That is called ratio, and we need to work on that somewhat. Zach, you are scrunching your shoulders at the catch, so that they are touching your ears. Try to sit so that your arms are down- it is like you are pulling your shoulders down to make your neck look long, and then you just grab onto the oar (but dont keep trying to pull the shoulders down from your ears). If you watch my stroke, I am pulling in too low, straight into my lap, and thus my blade is washing out. Some big things for the whole team: Keep your head in the boat, meaning dont be gawking around. Just keep you head forward; for some of our large heads, when we just turn it sideways, that is throwing a lot of weight across the boat, generating quite a bit of torque, causing the boat to not be set. Also, finishing into the sternum, and getting hands away quickly are big steps to a nice, smooth and set boat. Nice job out on the water though.
