CHAPTER 20 PART 1 So do you wanna drive us to the West Hollywood bank since you know this place? I ask. Sure. Can I drive your Escalade? Sure. Are you gonna wreck it? No. You promise? No. he says smiling. We walk into the living room and I grab the keys out of a shallow wooden bowl. We arrive at the bank and we walk inside to a small desk. Hi, I was wondering how much money I have. Im inheriting it from my parents will. I say handing the lady a piece of paper with my parents name and my name. Hello Mrs. Hurley. Please, both of you take a seat. She says motioning to the chairs. Thank you. We say. She types in some information on the computer and smiles. Well, you just came into a very great deal of money. She says turning her computer to me. She pointed to the amount with her mouse. I looked at the number and my mouth dropped. I knew your father. He used to come to me and set aside great amounts of money. Now it says here that you inherit all the family possessions. Will you be needing a new credit card while youre here so I can transfer your money? she asks politely. Yes. I say still staring at all the numbers. 12 million dollars. My parents left me in charge of 12 million dollars. I didnt know you could make that much owning a record company. I say. Well your father has much more saved up in his savings. Every year the money increases dramatically. She says giving me papers to fill out for the money and the credit card. She asks for my ID and sends me off to another desk. After about an hour of sitting and signing, I finally got my credit card. I slipped it into my phone and back into my pocket. We say our goodbyes and head to the car. Sohave you thought about adoption? Joe asks. As we get in the car. I dont know. I dont want Mandy to have to move to Florida. Its just I dont know if I can handle the responsibility. I say as we drive to Kelly Ross office. Think about it. He says as we get out of the car. We pick up the adoption forms and we start driving to my new house. I called a moving business and ordered for a truck to meet at our house at 3. It was 1:30 now so I decided to tell Mandy. Hello? Nick answers. Hey. Tell Mandy to be ready. Im going to pick her up and then were going to pack up the house. Okay, do you need help? I hired some movers. But do you want us to help? Sure. Well be there in like 3 minutes. Be outside. Okay, bye. He says hanging up. Do you want to come? Nick wants to help. I say Sure. He says pulling into the driveway where Nick, Mandy and Kevin were standing. Hey. Nick says sliding into the car. Hey. So how much money did they leave you? Kevin asks. Six zeros. I say turning around to face them. They left you a million dollars? Nick says after thinking about the response. Times twelve. They left you 12 million dollars?! Kevin says. Plus a lot more in theyre savings the lady said. Joe says. Sweet. So are you guys gonna move in today or what? Nick asks. Well yeah. I want to get all the stuff packed from the house and move it over here. But I want to go shopping for a new bed and curtains and stuff. Youre not going to paint right? Some people came over about a month ago and painted the whole house. It took like a week. Kevin says. Nope. Just get some decorations. They had these huge vacuums they used that were really loud. Joe says. Keep your eyes on the road. Nick shouts. Do you wanna driver? Joe asks. Well it would be safer. Nick says laughing. I called a storage place to put all of moms stuff. Is that okay? I ask. Yeah. Mandy says. We arrive at the house and we immediately start packing. On the way there, we bought 50 big boxes to start off with. The moving truck came and we filled it with boxes and took it over to the house. We had the movers take all the furniture to storage so all we packed were boxes. Surprisingly, we packed everything up that day. All it took was about eight trips. Im going to go shopping for some house stuff tomorrow, wanna come? I ask Joe. Sure. You wanna spend the night? Yeah. he says. We arrive back home at about 8 at night and they walk to theyre house to get changed. They come back about 5 minutes later and we watch the Labyrinth on the flat screen TV in our new living room. We watch the movie for awhile and they all fall asleep. I walk upstairs and grab the adoption papers and walk back downstairs to my spot on the couch. I flip through the papers and pick up my phone. I go through my contacts until Aunt Jane is highlighted. I hesitate for a second and call her. She doesnt pick up so I leave her a voicemail explaining what happen. I look at the adoption papers one last time before I fold them in half and stick them under a book on the coffee table. A month has passed and me and Mandy still havent talked much. Nick told me she calls him at night crying about how she doesnt want to leave.
